About Us
Our Mission
To inspire an environment of giving to support quality healthcare for the well being of the community served by the Welland Hospital Site of the Niagara Health System.
The Foundation raises money through donations from individuals, businesses, organizations and foundations, as well as special events and other fundraising activities.
Thanks to the continued generosity of donors from South Niagara and beyond, the Foundation is able to help our community hospital buy much needed medical equipment that saves and improves the lives of patients and their families.
Welland Hospital Foundation is a registered charity that provides tax receipts for eligible donations.
Charitable Tax #11929-0666-RR0001
Our History
Welland Hospital Foundation was established in 1979 by a group of dedicated volunteers as a separate corporation to raise funds for Welland County General Hospital. It was managed and run by volunteers until 1990 when its first Executive Director was hired.
Today the Foundation is governed by a 12-member volunteer Board of Directors, in partnership with the foundation staff to continue the philanthropic legacy of those who came before them.
The Foundation has raised millions of dollars for the Welland Hospital Site since it was established and has co-ordinated four successful capital campaigns for the Niagara Health System – Welland Hospital Site (formerly Welland County General Hospital).
Welland Hospital Foundation took up the challenge to raise the $3.2 million community share for the Leon Emergency Unit, opened in 2002, and the Leon Ambulatory Care Centre, opened in 2003. The total cost of these state-of-the-art units was $12.9 million.
The Partners for Health Campaign raised $5.7 million to purchase urgently needed medical equipment for the Welland Hospital Site, such as the $1.2 million Multi-Slice CT Scanner and the $500,000 Gamma Camera for Diagnostic Services. The campaign also funded furniture and equipment purchases for Rapelje Lodge through a partnership agreement. The campaign reached commitments for its $5.7 million goal in June 2000 with pledges to come in over five years.
The Making Healthy Changes Campaign ran from 1991 to 1994 raising $4.6 million for the acquisition of the Hospital's first CT Scanner, upgrade of laser technology and the Day Surgery redevelopment. Funds were also raised for the expansion and upgrading of the Hospital's Emergency department and Outpatient Services department; however, that project was delayed for many years waiting for approval from the Provincial Ministry of Health through a number of changes of government.
Operation Update was the Foundation's first capital campaign that ran from 1983 to 1990 raising $3 million. Funds purchased equipment and upgrades for a number of departments including ophthalmology, imaging, cardiac / respiratory, laboratory, central service area and laundry.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Heather J. Scott, CFRE, began her fundraising career in 1994 with a national health charity. She joined the Welland Hospital Foundation in 1997. She is responsible for the foundation's administration and fundraising efforts to ensure the needs of the Welland Hospital Site are met for years to come.
Heather has participated in and presented at many fundraising workshops and seminars to enhance her extensive knowledge and skills. Heather is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. She achieved her CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) professional designation in 2003 and recertified in 2006 and 2009.
Heather shares her life with Glen, his three children, two large dogs and a cat. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Welland. Her interests include a passion for the Boston Red Sox, her pets, motorcycling, camping and rollerblading.
Of her job at the Foundation Heather says, "I love what I do. Knowing that I am part of making the care available at the Welland Hospital Site the best it can for everyone is very rewarding. Everyone involved in the foundation, our staff, board members and volunteers put 110% into their efforts on behalf of local health care. Our donors continue to amaze me with their generosity and continued interest in giving all that they can."
DONOR RELATIONS CO-ORDINATOR
Andrea (Ang) Climenhage started at the Foundation in December 2000 on contract to support the Telefundraising program and handled some administrative duties. She became the foundation's Data Specialist in 2001. In 2007 when the staffing was revised, Ang took on an expanded portfolio and her title was changed to Donor Relations Co-ordinator.
Ang received her diploma in Computer Software Applications in 2000 and received her Advanced Software Applications in 2005. She continues to upgrade her education taking courses suitable to the health and business-related fields. Ang is now working towards her Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation.
Ang is married with two children. She has played an active role volunteering for the Pelham Soccer Club as the Director of Internet Services & Webmaster since 2004. Her interests include watching and participating in various sports, reading, and socializing with friends and family.
The foundation has enabled Ang to grow both professionally and emotionally. "I have met and talked to so many wonderful people. Because of the type of work I do I don't get to deal with people face-to-face very often. The times I get to interact with donors have led to many wonderful conversations which have enabled me to continue to love the work that I do."
