Donor Recognition

Lobby Donor Wall

Our Donor Wall in the Hospital's front lobby is a tribute to the many individuals, businesses, organizations and foundations, which have given a cumulative total of $5,000 or more to the Foundation since its incorporation in 1979.

Each plaque may include the names of individuals, families, organizations, foundations or companies. Plaques may also represent donations received for any individual a donor wishes to honour.

Plaques are added when a donor has reached a cumulative total of $5,000 or more. Many donors choose to make a pledge commitment that they pay over time, making it easier to give a major gift to support the Niagara Health System – Welland Hospital Site. Donors have the opportunity to move up through the different levels as their giving total increases.

The wall is updated at least quarterly to include the names of new donors while moving some donors up to a higher category.

Donors are recognized at the following levels of giving:

  • Benefactor $1,000,000 +
  • Founder $500,000 – $999,999
  • Pillar $250,000 – $499,999
  • Partner $100,000 - $249,999
  • Fellow $50,000 - $99,999
  • Patron $25,000 - $49,999
  • Sponsor $10,000 - $24,999
  • Supporter $5,000 – $9,999

Gifts of $100 or more

The Foundation recognizes donors of $100 or more in its Annual Report and semi-annual Community Updates in The Tribune. We would like to recognize all of our donors but the volume prohibits us from doing so.

Welland Hospital Foundation installed the Wall of Loving Memories in 2004 to recognize loved ones who have passed on and in whose memory the foundation has received donations of more than $1,000.

The nameplate contains the deceased's name, year of birth and year of death. This symbol will serve as a loving tribute to their memory for generations to come.

Donations made in these peoples' memory helps to ensure that the best possible care is available by purchasing new and replacement equipment, paying for renovations and new construction.

Gifts to the Palliative Care Department are used for special palliative care education and training for volunteers and staff who so ably provide care and support to patients and their families.

Families of those whose donations were less than $1,000 may choose to donate the difference to reach that amount in order to have their loved one's name placed on the wall.

The foundation was unfortunately not able to locate next of kin for all of the people that would qualify for plaques on the memorial wall.

Anyone wishing to donate $1,000 to have a loved one's name placed on the wall may also do so.

For information regarding this memorial tribute or to inquire as to whether one of your loved ones is included, please call 905-378-4647 ext. 32396.

Welland Hospital Auxiliary Donor Wall

A special wall of photographs highlighting the history of the Welland Hospital Auxiliary was installed on 3 South in April 2001. The tribute is in honour of the Auxiliary's outstanding contribution to Welland Hospital over the years. The Auxiliary has donated and pledged a total of $2.4 million since its establishment in 1945. Its most recent pledge of $1 million over 10 years will help fund the new permanent Dialysis Unit which opened in May 2008.
