What to bring to the hospital
The following items will be needed when you come to hospital to have your baby:
In labour:
- Dressing gown
- Slippers
- Socks
- Massage oil or lotion
- Lip balm
- Preferential drinks ie: sport drinks
- Things to help pass the time: games, books, magazines
- Hairband and/or elastic especially if you have long hair
- Your favourite pillow
- Toiletries
- Music to listen to: small portable radio or MP3 player for personal use
- Watch or clock
For your birth companion:
- Small hand held fan to keep mom cool
- Comfortable shoes
- Change of clothes
- Watch
- Digital camera
- Camcorder
- Address book
- Snack and drinks
For after the birth:
- Sanitary napkins (2 pks) supers or maxi
- Nursing bra if desired
- Breastfeeding nightgown or pajamas
- Toiletries including: toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, hairbrush, kleenex
- Old underwear
- Going home outfit
- Have your birth companion leave the digital camera for you to use in hospital
Baby care items:
- Package of diapers (newborn)
- Baby wipes
- Shampoo for baby
- Lotion for baby
- 2-3 infant sleepers
- Receiving blankets
- Hats and socks for baby
- Baby comb or brush
- An outfit for baby to wear home
- Baby blanket (1-2 if cold weather)
- Car seat
