Temporary Welland Hospital Service Disruptions
Following a recent pipe leak at Welland Hospital due to ageing infrastructure, we have made the decision to temporarily close the Operating Room (OR) to carry out necessary reconstruction. We are currently finalizing the schedule and will share updates as soon as they are available.

To maintain continuity of care, surgical procedures, where possible, are being redirected to the Marotta Family and Niagara Falls Hospitals.

If your surgery has been rescheduled, please note that it will no longer take place at Welland Hospital and may be moved to either the Niagara Falls or St. Catharines sites.

Niagara Health’s Surgical Program performs approximately 40,000 procedures every year at the Niagara Falls, St. Catharines and Welland sites combined.

A comprehensive integrated team of professionals will help guide you through your preadmission visit, the surgical preparation phase, and into the operating room and recovery areas. Whether you stay with us for a day or several days, we are here to ensure your safety, maintain privacy, and provide an overall great patient experience.

State-of-the-art technology supports the provision of high-quality safe care for our adult and pediatric patient populations. Elective and emergency surgeries use up-to-date diagnostic procedures and surgical intervention.

The surgical program works collaboratively with the Ontario Wait Time Strategy to help improve access to timely care, such as approximately 1,100 joint replacements and more than 5,000 cataract procedures every year.
