Dr. Julian Dobranowski receives Distinguished Career Achievement Award

Dr. Julian Dobranowski, Niagara Health’s Chief of Diagnostic Imaging, is being honoured by the Canadian Association of Radiologists with the Distinguished Career Achievement Award.

The award recognizes individuals who, over the course of their career, have made significant contributions to radiology in Canada.

Dr. Dobranowski will receive the award at a virtual ceremony on May 1, which is Doctors’ Day.

“I am pleased, honored and thrilled to accept the 2021 CAR Distinguished Career Achievement Award and to join a group of past recipients whom I have long admired and respected,” says Dr. Dobranowski, an internationally reputable expert in Diagnostic Imaging. “Throughout my career I have been focused on improving patient outcomes. This has led me on an incredible journey of discovery that has been both challenging and rewarding.”

Since joining the Niagara Health team in 2016, Dr. Dobranowski has provided physician leadership and overseen planning and quality initiatives in the Diagnostic Imaging department that have enhanced patient care.

Last year, he was named Chair of the Department of Radiology for the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, where he has been a faculty member since 1988.

Dr. Dobranowski is also the provincial head of the Cancer Imaging Program at Ontario Health-Cancer Care Ontario and is the provincial clinical lead for Access to Care MRI/CT, providing advice on quality issues related to medical imaging in the province.

Dr. Dobranowski began his career as a staff radiologist at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton in 1986, following his medical training in Poland, radiology training at McMaster and an MRI fellowship at Western University.

“This recognition is a testament to Dr. Dobranowski’s exemplary career as a world-renowned physician, educator and researcher,” says Dr. Johan Viljoen, Niagara Health Chief of Staff and Executive Vice President Medical. “On behalf of everyone at Niagara Health, I offer my sincere congratulations to him for this great honour.”
