New Port Residential Addiction Treatment Centre enhancing services to improve patient care

Posted Jun 29th, 2022

Niagara Health’s New Port Residential Addiction Treatment Centre is adding new services and customizable programming for patients to better serve their individual needs and reduce wait times for those seeking treatment.

Located at our Port Colborne Site, the New Port Centre offers residential treatment and community support options to help people across the province overcome substance use.

Effective immediately, the Centre will provide services to patients pre- and post-treatment, which will provide more support during individual transitions coming into treatment and transitioning back into their communities. These enhancements are made possible thanks to permanent funding recently provided by Ontario’s Ministry of Health.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging time for many people and created an increased need for addiction services,” says Linda Boich, Executive Vice President Quality and Mental Health and Addictions, Executive Lead, Integrated Care. “Enhancing our services will help us to support our patients struggling with addiction and ensure they have the best treatment options customized for their unique needs.”

The Centre will also offer more opportunities to start treatment, reducing wait times for those seeking addiction services.

“Our team works diligently to maintain a treatment culture that is flexible, respectful and compassionate,” says Brenda Yeandle, Manager of Clinical Services, Addiction Services, Mental Health and Addiction Program at Niagara Health. “The additional funding will enhance the client experience by improving access, ensuring the connections are made coming from community and returning and of course allowing us to expand the great programming that already exists.”

In its 33-year history, the New Port Centre has served as a leader in the province: it was the first residential treatment program to accept patients who used methadone; the first to offer treatment streams tailored to patients’ needs; and the first to offer tobacco cessation as an imbedded component of treatment.
