Niagara Health Board member, Dr. Gervan Fearon, appointed to the Order of Ontario

It is with great pride that we congratulate Dr. Gervan Fearon, one of Niagara Health’s Board of Directors, on his appointment to the Order of Ontario. The Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario announced 25 new appointments to the Order of Ontario for 2023. The Order of Ontario is the province’s highest civilian honour and is awarded to individuals whose exceptional achievements have left a lasting legacy in the province and beyond.

“I am humbled to be a recipient of the Order of Ontario. It has been an honour to contribute to others and the province through my efforts in post-secondary education, community development and volunteerism,” said Fearon. “I thank all the wonderful people that I have been so fortunate to work and interact with over the years, including those individuals across the Niagara region and at Niagara Health. Congratulations to the other individuals honoured and I thank those who nominated and supported me.”

In his nomination for the prestigious award, Dr. Fearon was recognized as a leader in providing transformative education opportunities to benefit academia, and is commended for his vision in equity, inclusion and community empowerment which has influenced significant positive change across Ontario. Dr. Fearon has a long standing connection to the Niagara community and has served as President and Vice-Chancellor at Brock University from 2017-2021.

Fearon joined the Niagara Health Board of Directors in February 2021 after receiving the Board’s unanimous approval. “Niagara Health is fortunate to have Dr. Fearon’s steadfast leadership and passion for building strong communities,” said Lynn Guerriero, President and CEO of Niagara Health.

“A well-deserved honour to an individual that continuously contributes to the vitality and prosperity of not only Niagara Health, but our province,” said Marylee O’Neill, Board Chair of Niagara Health.

Dr. Fearon is currently serving as the President of George Brown College and has a strong professional background in post-secondary education. Previously, Dr. Fearon was President and Vice-Chancellor at Brandon University (2014-2017). Dr. Fearon has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Western Ontario and also holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA, CFA) and Institute of Corporate Directors designation (ICD.D).
