The Laboratory Medicine Program offers 24-hour diagnostic testing at our Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, and Welland sites for treating emergency and routine hospital patients. Service is provided on-site, regionally and/or through referral.

A wide variety of laboratory services exist at Niagara Health including Hematology, Coagulation, Clinical Chemistry, Surgical Pathology, Cytology, Autopsy Service and Transfusion Medicine. In March 2021, the program was recognized for its excellence and quality of service by receiving the highest accreditation status by Accreditation Canada Diagnostics for the second time in a row.

Microbiology Services are performed at the St. Catharines Site and other providers within the region and Public Health Laboratories when necessary. The Laboratories are licensed by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) and participate in and consistently achieve Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare Laboratory Accreditation status.

Also available is the OnTraC program, a provincially-co-ordinated blood conservation program.

Point of care testing is available at our Fort Erie and Port Colborne sites.
