Once we receive your completed referral paperwork, you will be added to our waitlist. When we are able to offer you an intake date, you will be contacted by one of our counsellors for an intake phone interview. During this call, we will review your information and discuss potential intake dates and availability. We require you to refrain from using substances for five (5) days prior to admission to New Port Centre. You will be assessed upon arrival. You may be redirected to our Withdrawal Management Services if you require a period of stability due to substance misuse. The New Port Centre Intake Coordinator can help arrange pretreatment at Niagara Health’s Withdrawal Management Services (also known as Detox) up to 5 days before an admission date.
Clients will be provided with a scheduled admission time prior to their arrival. Upon arrival for your scheduled admission, you will be introduced to one of our addiction counsellors who will guide you through the intake process. They will meet with you privately to review your information and discuss any recent substance use. Following this conversation, they will show you to your room and begin the unpacking process. At this time, they will need to search your belongings for any prohibited items. This is done to ensure the safety of yourself and others. Once completed, you will be given a guided tour of the facilities before meeting with our nursing team, who will address any medical concerns and review your medications with you. This medical assessment will include alcohol and drug screening, which helps ensure your safety at New Port Centre.
Our client bedrooms are designed to hold two clients per room. Each bedroom has a lock with keycard access to ensure clients feel safe during their stay. All bedrooms have their own washroom, walk-in closet and temperature control. Standard bedding and towels are provided during your stay.
Paid hospital parking is available in the lot behind New Port Centre. Parking fees are set by the hospital. Learn more about hospital parking options and fees.
New Port Centre is located next to H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park, which has a limited number of free city parking spaces. Clients may choose to park here, but do so at their own risk. These spaces are not monitored by Niagara Health or New Port Centre.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere on hospital property (indoors or outdoors) in accordance with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act and Niagara Health’s workplace policy. This includes the exterior grounds, parking lots and vehicles. Using electronic cigarette products and smoking cannabis are also not allowed.
Smoking or vaping at New Port Centre will result in immediate transition from the program.

All non-prescription medications (including supplements) must be brought in new, unopened bottles/packaging.
All medications will be collected from clients upon arrival and stored securely in the nurse’s office for the duration of their stay. You will have access to your prescribed medications four times a day, seven days a week.
