Niagara, ON: A newly recruited obstetrician and gynecologist in Welland has expanded her services to the Port Colborne Site of the Niagara Health System.
Dr. Nambizi Beyani, a mother of three, began working at Niagara Health’s Welland Site in September 2009. She provides an array of services ranging from mature women’s health and menopausal counselling to hysterectomy and minimally invasive surgery for urinary incontinence.
Dr. Beyani will offer gynecological services one Friday per month at her Port Colborne Site satellite office. The first clinic was held in May.
“I am pleased to be able to offer the residents of Port Colborne and surrounding area specialty services closer to home,” says Dr. Beyani, who graduated from medical school at the University of Zambia before starting her residency in the United Kingdom. “I wanted to be home with my children so I took some time before heading back to complete my residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Saskatchewan.”
Her family did a lot of camping when they first moved to Canada. While visiting friends in the Niagara region, they took a tour of Niagara Falls and rode the Maid of the Mist. “It was so beautiful, my family decided then that if we were ever given the opportunity to come back we would. When the offer arose to come back to Niagara, it felt like the chance of a lifetime. We aren’t big city people and love the beauty that Niagara has to offer.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Beyani to our community's health team," says Port Colborne Mayor Vance Badawey. "This announcement aligns itself well with our city's community-based healthcare blueprint for equal access to care in small communities across the province of Ontario. It is extremely important to address women's health issues locally."
“Dr. Beyani is a wonderful addition to our team of physicians at the Niagara Health System,” says President and CEO Debbie Sevenpifer. “We are pleased to work with Dr. Beyani to expand local services to the women of Port Colborne and area.”
Patients will continue to visit Dr. Beyani at her Welland office for obstetrical services. Appointments can be made by referral through patients’ family doctors.
