PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
The Niagara Health System’s Health Education Series is travelling to several communities this fall and in September the focus is on transitioning care needs. On September 15, Transitioning Care Needs as We Age is a presentation at Port Colborne Site that will focus on the types of healthcare needs that require support and care, how to stay safely at home, and different residential services, such as sheltered accommodation and hospital complex continuing care services.

“In my job at the hospital, every day I work with families who weren’t aware that their aging parents were declining in health,” says presenter Wendy Robb, Niagara Health System Health Program Director. “Adult children often don’t learn about homecare, community supports or hospital care until their parent is in a health crisis. That’s a difficult time to make life-changing decisions. We need to become educated about what is available in our healthcare system and when to ask for help before a health crisis occurs in a family.”
Presenter Patricia Regier is Program Co-ordinator with Community Support Services of Niagara, a non-profit agency which aims to keep seniors in their homes as long as possible. “Through low cost or no cost services, people are able to stay independent, in their own homes,” Patricia says. “Many times, there are simple steps we can take to stay healthy, safe and strong, so people can keep living at home as they age. My presentation will focus on our Safety at Home program and the many services available for seniors and people who care about them.”
This event is sponsored by the Port Colborne Hospital Auxiliary and Niagara Health System. There will be a question and answer period, take-home information and light refreshments. All are welcome.
