Posted Oct 7th, 2010

Niagara, Ontario: Dr. Nick Marchi, a family physician who has studied in British Columbia, Poland and Toronto, is becoming a familiar face at Douglas Memorial and in his new family practice office at Family Group Practice at 238 Bertie Street inside the Fort Erie Medical Building in Fort Erie.

Dr. Marchi started treating patients at the Douglas Memorial Urgent Care Centre a week ago. He is also accepting new patients at his family practice.

Dr. Marchi began working at the Douglas Urgent Care Centre on September 29, 2010. A graduate of Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow, Poland, Dr. Marchi was introduced to Niagara during his elective studies with Dr. Maynard Luterman, Site chief for the Southern Tier which includes the Douglas Memorial Site.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia in 1996 before being accepted to medical school. When he completed his studies in Poland in 2001 he returned to the Lower Mainland and from 2003 to 2007 completed two clinical placements in Emergency Medicine: at Peace Arch Hospital in the border city of White Rock, B.C., and at Surrey Memorial Hospital in Surrey.

Starting in 2007 Dr. Marchi performed his residency with the University of Toronto at the St. Joseph’s Health Centre, specializing in Family Medicine. He completed his residency earlier this year.

By working together with the Town of Fort Erie we have been able to provide Dr. Marchi with a patient care environment where he can develop a community practice and continue to work within a hospital environment. It is a pleasure to welcome Dr. Marchi to our patient care team at the Douglas Memorial Urgent Care Centre.”
Debbie Sevenpifer, President and CEO, Niagara Health System

“Having Dr. Marchi choose to practice in Fort Erie is the culmination of a lot of effort by the Town of Fort Erie and the Niagara Health System. This is an example of the benefits we can bring to the community when we work constructively with partners.”
