Volunteer campaign leads, donors, NHS leadership and staff assembled at a special event on May 10, 2012 to celebrate a tremendous win for healthcare in Niagara.
Members of the volunteer and staff fundraising team revealed that they had not only met our campaign fundraising goal, they surpassed it, with funds totaling $40,816,118 to date!
A special thanks is owed to all donors, volunteers, auxiliaries and foundations. It is through your combined efforts that we were able to achieve this tremendous milestone!

The $40 million It’s Our Time Campaign was created to help support the local share of our new hospital, to enhance services across our region, and most importantly, to bring care closer to home.
The event opened with Lucille Vogel, a patient of the Oncology Program, ringing the ceremonial gong, signifying the victorious triumph of her final cancer treatment.
“I couldn’t think of a better way to thank the volunteers and donors than to illustrate the difference they make every day to our patients now, and into the future once cancer care is provided at the future Walker Family Cancer Centre,” said Master of Ceremonies and Medical Director of Oncology, Dr. Janice Giesbrecht.
The volunteer leadership of the It’s Our Time Campaign not only came together to tackle the most ambitious health-care campaign in the history of Niagara, it was accomplished during a global economic crisis.
“What you have announced today is hard to quantify, it is historic. Our community and our healthcare system are forever in your debt,” said Interim President and CEO Dr. Sue Matthews.
“The unwavering support you have demonstrated to the NHS and the tremendous work effort you have provided on our behalf is an inspiration to all of us. What an amazing accomplishment to not only reach our campaign goal, but to exceed it prior to the new hospital even opening! We can only grow stronger thanks to the community support shown by each and every one of our campaign volunteers and donors who believe in the future of healthcare in Niagara.”
The new health complex project is entering the home stretch on time and on budget, with 198 days left until construction completion. The hospital looks forward to making the very best use of the building and the tools that they have put at our disposal, with our staff, physicians and volunteers joining in the pledge to provide our community with one million square feet of care.
Advancements supported by the It’s Our Time Campaign will be pivotal in providing staff and physicians with the tools to provide leading-edge quality care to our patients for generations to come; helping to attract nurses, doctors and medical professionals to the Niagara Region.
