A drawing depicting the caring spirit of the season and holistic nature of healing is this year’s selection in the sixth annual Niagara Health System Holiday Greeting Card contest. The competition had a total of 67 imaginative and artistic entries this year.
Kasey Buttner has been selected as the artist of the 2012 NHS holiday greeting. Kasey is the five-year-old daughter of physiotherapist Kellie Buttner and respiratory therapist Steve Buttner, both employees at the Greater Niagara General Site. The family resides in Fonthill, where Kasey is a Grade One student at Glynn A. Green Public School. “Kasey loves to draw, read, sing, dance, and do her homework,” says Kellie. “She will be thrilled!”
All children and grandchildren aged 12 or under of NHS staff, physicians and volunteers were invited to participate in an artwork contest giving them the chance of being selected as the acclaimed artist of the card. Judges Interim President and CEO Sue Matthews and Interim Chief of Staff Dr. Joanna Hope had the difficult job of picking winners from the wide variety of creative, inspiring entries.
“We were drawn to Kasey’s card illustrating a hospital surrounded by the holistic spirit of caring; the type of caring each and every patient deserves when they come to us at the NHS,” says Sue. As the winning entry, Kasey’s artwork will be used in the NHS electronic holiday greeting which will be distributed to community members and partner organizations throughout the region and province.
Winners in each of the three age categories were also selected. They are:
- Ages 3-5 – Hunter Guillemette, 4 years old, son of Denis Guillemette, Registered Nurse, Welland Hospital Site
- Ages 6-8 – Jacob McLeod, 8 years old, son of Cindy McLeod, Health Records, St. Catharines General Site
- Ages 9-12 – Cameron Lee, 11 years old, son of Wendy Lee, ICU Ward Clerk, Welland Hospital Site
The winners will each receive a certificate of recognition and a gift card.
