The Niagara Health System (NHS) is hosting open houses for individuals interested in volunteer opportunities available at our sites in the southern part of the region.
Currently the hospitals are looking for newly retired and soon-to-be-retired professionals who want to make a difference in local healthcare and help provide our health care team provide a great patient experience.
A number of fulfilling and challenging volunteer opportunities are available at the Greater Niagara General; Welland; Douglas Memorial; and Port Colborne sites. Our recruitment efforts at the St. Catharines Site were very successful and this site does not require additional volunteers at this time. The types of volunteer positions include patient and family care, information and customer service, and administrative assistance.
Volunteers help provide quality patient-centred care in a number of ways. They visit with and comfort patients during challenging times in the patients’ lives. They give information and directions, and assist with a variety of patient programs. Volunteers also fundraise for equipment and capital projects, provide customer service and leadership and work in our gift shops. People are matched with roles that are meaningful and use their talents in partnership with our doctors, nurses and staff.
