Posted Jan 22nd, 2014 in News

Niagara Health System is pleased to announce today that we have recruited Derek McNally to the position of Executive Vice President, Clinical Services & Chief Nursing Executive, effective Monday, February 24, 2014.  In this role Derek will act as executive lead for the clinical portfolios. He will be tasked with helping to optimize our performance as we strive for a great patient experience and excellence of culture, quality and safety, staff and physician engagement, and financial stewardship, working with the other members of the Executive.

“I am very excited to announce Derek is returning to a permanent position at Niagara Health System,” said Dr. Kevin Smith, CEO. “Derek has a remarkable track record for implementing sustainable change, and his personal style and approach engender a great deal of team buy-in and a great work environment. I have no doubt he will help us continue on the path to building the best culture of caring at NHS, while also planning for a new hospital site in the South.”

Derek noted he was energized to rejoin NHS to continue building on past successes:

“Niagara Health System has much to celebrate, in particular a really great team. I am so happy to rejoin the organization because of the energy of our leaders, and because there are so many opportunities on our horizon. I have no doubt working with our physicians, our partners, and the community we can accomplish a great deal more building on the many improvements of the past 3 years.”

Derek is rejoining NHS after serving as Executive Vice President, Clinical Programs at Markham Stouffville Hospital. Previously Derek was Vice President, Patient Services & Site Lead and Chief Nursing Officer at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at Niagara Health System, where he distinguished himself by dramatically changing the performance and perception of his site. Previous to NHS and Markham, Derek has also held senior leadership positions at Trillium Health Centre, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and the Hospital for Sick Children.

Derek began his career as a front-line nurse and has continued to be a strong and vocal advocate for great patient care.

Derek’s office will be located in Corporate Administration on Floor 2 of the St. Catharines Site. Karen Wilson will be working with Derek in an administrative support function. Derek’s contact information will be available shortly.

A revised organizational chart will be available later this month with more information.
