Dr. Kevin Smith, President & CEO of St. Joseph’s Health System and CEO of Niagara Health, is announcing today that he is stepping down on May 21, 2018, to assume the role of President & CEO of University Health Network in Toronto.
Dr. Smith arrived in Niagara in August 2011 as the provincially appointed Supervisor under then-Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Deb Matthews. He was appointed CEO of Niagara Health in 2014.Dr. Smith’s achievements in Niagara were many. He worked with the Board to recruit our current President, Dr. Suzanne Johnston, from British Columbia.
He was instrumental in establishing a new path forward for Niagara Health in his initial role of Supervisor. Thanks to his outstanding leadership, we have increased trust in our communities and developed strong and lasting partnerships. As CEO, Kevin secured $1 billion for our south Niagara redevelopment which will continue to shape our future directions at Niagara Health.
The Niagara Health Board has full confidence in the leadership and teams at Niagara Health, all of whom are doing an extraordinary job to achieve our vision of creating a healthier Niagara. Dr. Smith’s announcement provides a timely opportunity to review the senior leadership structure at Niagara Health to ensure it best meets the present and future needs of our hospital organization and the communities we serve.
