We miss their smiles and thoughtful gestures, but we know our volunteers are with us in spirit as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our volunteers play an important role in providing extraordinary care to our patients and families. During National Volunteer Week – April 19 to 25 – we are sending a special virtual thank you to Niagara Health's more than 850 volunteers. As part of our COVID-19 response, there are currently no volunteers at NH.
As we get used to this new normal, we greatly miss seeing the volunteers around our sites and we look forward to welcoming them back when the time is right.
“I miss the rest of the Niagara Health team and the patients I've gotten to know over my time volunteering,” says volunteer Linda Wilcke. “I can't wait to get back and in the meantime, I'm helping where I safely can – we will get through this together.”
Our volunteers play an integral role at NH, volunteering in a number of departments, including Cardiac Rehab, Critical Care, Emergency Department, Medical Imaging, Mental Health, Outpatient Clinics, Palliative Care, Surgical Services, the Walker Family Cancer Centre and Women and Babies.
“Niagara Health Volunteers have contributed and enhanced the patient experience in so many ways over the past year,” says Volunteer Resource Coordinator Andrea McCollum. “Their dedication and commitment to Niagara Health is very much appreciated and missed at this time.”
