IN IT TOGETHER: This band of doctors won't back down

Posted May 30th, 2020

Dr. Suneel Upadhye and his Docs That Rock bandmates weren’t about to back down from having their music heard during the pandemic.

Dr. Upadhye, a Niagara Health Emergency Department physician, is a bassist in the band that features ED doctors from across Canada.

The band has a regular gig at the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians annual conference as a way to raise money for the Emergency Medicine Advancement Fund, which supports emergency medicine research. With their live show postponed because of COVID-19, Docs That Rock came together virtually to perform a rendition of Tom Petty’s “I Won't Back Down” to provide an uplifting message to healthcare workers.

The video was posted online and has attracted media attention from across the country. The video has been viewed nearly 13,000 times in a week.

The song’s lyrics speak to the resiliency of healthcare workers during this challenging time.
