Statement from Niagara Health President Lynn Guerriero about Millennium Trail Manor:
Outbreaks in long-term care facilities continue to be of paramount concern during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Niagara Health’s expertise and resources are being called upon to provide assistance and protect residents and staff in these facilities.
The Ministry of Long-Term Care announced today that it has issued a Mandatory Management Order (MMO) appointing Niagara Health to temporarily manage Millennium Trail Manor in Niagara Falls. The Oakwood Drive facility has been in a facility-wide outbreak of COVID-19 since September 29, 2020.
We are all seeing the impacts of COVID-19 on our most vulnerable citizens. This has been a difficult time for residents, families and staff at Millennium Trail Manor. We expect this MMO will bring needed support to the team at the home. They have been working hard under challenging circumstances to contain the virus and protect residents and staff.
Our hospital team is highly trained in outbreak management and will work together with Millennium staff to provide leadership and resources to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all. We’ll work alongside Millennium Trail Manor to ensure the continuity of care for residents is maintained and existing staff are supported in providing safe care.
We are committed to keeping families of residents informed and will be providing a regular forum for families to interact with us.
In collaboration with Millennium Trail staff, the hospital response team will begin its work immediately to develop and implement an action plan to bring a safe end to the outbreak.
We will provide regular communications to keep the Niagara community up to date on this important work.
