No COVID-19 outbreaks at Niagara Health

The end of two outbreaks at our Welland Site means there are currently no COVID-19 outbreaks at Niagara Health.

Outbreaks on the Fourth-Floor Unit and the Extended Care Unit, a long-term care home, were declared over today after 14 days of enhanced monitoring of patients, residents and staff showed there had been no evidence of further transmission and no new additional COVID-19 cases on the units.

Since early December, our teams have managed a number of outbreaks at our Niagara Falls, St. Catharines and Welland sites. The outbreaks have limited our ability to admit and transfer patients needing acute care.

Resolving these outbreaks has been a tremendous amount of work and is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our teams to provide extraordinary caring to our patients by consistently practicing infection prevention and control measures.

While this is welcome news, it is important we all remain vigilant in our fight to stop the spread of this highly contagious virus. This means following public health measures, including physical distancing, proper and consistent mask usage, regular hand washing, and staying home as much as possible.
