Niagara Health celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day

National Indigenous Peoples Day is a day to celebrate the unique heritage, rich traditions and teachings of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

It is also a day to recognize the need to continue working together with our Indigenous partners to build healthy communities.

At Niagara Health, we remain committed to highlighting inclusion as a key driver for providing Extraordinary Caring. Our continued commitment to diversity and equity, includes:

  • Working with Indigenous Community Partners to support educational opportunities for staff and physicians;
  • Committing to Indigenous peoples as a priority population through our work as an Niagara Ontario Health Team - Équipe santé Ontario-Niagara (NOHT-ESON) partner;
  • The introduction of Indigenous Services with designated spaces for spiritual care and Indigenous healing at our new South Niagara Hospital Site;
  • Celebrating Niagara Health Indigenous Inclusion Month and observing Orange Shirt Day.

As part of our National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration, we would like to share our organizational Indigenous Land Acknowledgment that was developed in partnership with local Indigenous partners.
