Niagara Health physician receives international award

Dr. Shira Brown, Deputy Chief of Emergency Medicine, South Niagara, has been named one of the Best & Brightest Executive MBAs by Poets & Quants, the leading news source for graduate business education

A Niagara Health Emergency Department physician leader is among the top 102 “Best & Brightest” Executive MBA graduates from across the world.

Dr. Shira Brown, Deputy Chief of Emergency Medicine, South Niagara, provides leadership and frontline care to patients and their families at our Fort Erie, Port Colborne, Niagara Falls and Welland sites. Dr. Brown has been instrumental in our COVID-19 pandemic response.

She is being recognized for her service to patients, leading a team of physicians while implementing her learnings into her work, contributions to research (such as being a key member of the Emergency Medicine Researchers of Niagara program) and for contributing to her Executive MBA program’s broader understanding of crisis leadership.

“I am so honoured to receive this recognition and am humbled to have been nominated by my program,” says Dr. Brown. “I have always been passionate about my work as a physician. Now, I look forward to integrating the philosophical, ethical and operational frameworks that I learned through my Executive MBA to bring fresh new ideas and strong thought leadership to my daily work in order to improve patient care.”

Dr. Brown joined Niagara Health in 2009. She completed the Brown University and IE Business School Executive MBA program at Brown University in Rhode Island earlier this year. The Best & Brightest recognizes graduates who personify excellence through their contributions to the class, academic performance, extracurricular involvement, professional achievement, and personal intangibles. Students from 49 top-ranked Executive MBA programs globally were nominated this year.

“We are incredibly proud of Dr. Brown for both her academic accomplishments and for her leadership at Niagara Health,” says Dr. Johan Viljoen, Chief of Staff, Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs. “Dr. Brown’s recognition as one of the Best & Brightest Executive MBAs in the world is well-deserved and exemplifies the caliber of medical talent we have here in Niagara.”
