Pediatric surge to impact elective pediatric surgeries over coming two weeks

Posted Nov 18th, 2022

Like other hospitals across the province, Niagara Health is continuing to face a strain on pediatric capacity due to an early and severe respiratory illness season, among other factors.

Our teams continue to work extremely hard to handle the high volumes of pediatric patients, however, in order to create more capacity for those with immediate needs, a small number of elective pediatric day surgeries originally scheduled for our St. Catharines Site between Nov. 21 and Dec. 2 will need to be moved to the Niagara Falls Site or rescheduled to a later date.

These elective, non-emergency surgeries are primarily for ear, nose and throat patients. This will not impact emergency pediatric care in any way.

All families impacted by these temporary measures are being contacted to discuss alternative options. We appreciate their patience as we work to ensure continuity of care for everyone in the community.
