Niagara Health has launched the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process for the Welland Hospital Renovation Project, marking an important milestone for the opening of the South Niagara Hospital.
The planned renovations at Welland Hospital will modernize and reconfigure existing spaces to accommodate the future relocation of approximately 60 complex care beds and the Residential Addictions Treatment Centre which is currently located in Port Colborne. The project is a critical component of Niagara Health’s broader strategy to ensure patients continue to receive high-quality, specialized care across the region as services transition to the South Niagara Hospital, scheduled to open in 2028.
Construction in Welland is expected to begin in Spring 2027, following the completion of the procurement and planning process.
The RFQ represents the first step in identifying qualified construction partners with the relevant experience, capacity and commitment to deliver a project that will strengthen hospital services for the Niagara community for generations to come.
Welland Hospital is a cornerstone of Niagara Health's future three-site hospital system model and these renovations are a critical step in preparing the site for that role. As we move toward the opening of the South Niagara Hospital, this $55 million investment reinforces our commitment to providing high-quality care close to home and ensures Welland remains a key part of healthcare delivery in Niagara.
The renovation project includes significant infrastructure upgrades and will modernize aging spaces and support the delivery of hospital services in Welland. These upgrades will strengthen the infrastructure of the hospital and create spaces that better support the delivery of care.
Local tradespeople have played an instrumental role in the progress and success of the South Niagara Hospital project, bringing skill, expertise and a strong commitment to quality throughout construction.
Niagara Health has a comprehensive renovation plan that will not impact the delivery of care at the Welland Hospital.
