Dr. Ahmad Sidiqi, an ophthalmologist at Niagara Health, provides visionary care to patients.
Dr. Ahmad Sidiqi had his sights set on Niagara while working as a medical resident.
Originally from Markham, Dr. Sidiqi, an ophthalmologist who works at Niagara Health, started in the summer of 2025. After completing medical school at the University of British Columbia, he returned to Ontario and got his first glimpse into what working at the hospital was like during his residency at McMaster University.
“I organized two elective rotations at Niagara Health and met the surgeons who are now my colleagues,” he says. “It’s a great team. I knew when I was a resident that I wanted to find my way back here. As soon as a position for an ophthalmologist came up, I applied right away.”
He credits the hospital’s welcoming physician community, and having the opportunity to serve the region where he’s raising his family, as the inspiration to make Niagara Health his home.
“I’m fortunate to work in a system that encourages us to use the most advanced technologies to care for patients and simultaneously promotes knowledge translation through affiliations with community academic institutions,” Dr. Sidiqi says. “I am also privileged to work in a group practice where we support one another in providing prompt care to our community. The collegiality allows for fulfillment in our clinical practice, while providing flexibility to pursue our passions in and outside of work.”
As an ophthalmologist, he performs eye surgeries, injections and lasers, but also medically treats and monitors patients with advanced eye diseases.

Niagara has one of the highest populations of older adults in Canada, with nearly one in four Niagara residents being a senior. With several common eye diseases having age-related components, there is a need for ophthalmologists like Sidiqi in the region.
Examples of common eye diseases that Dr. Sidiqi helps to treat and monitor include cataracts (a clouding of the eye’s natural lens), glaucoma (a group of eye diseases that causes optic nerve damage) and age-related macular degeneration (a progressive eye disease that can cause central vision loss).
“My love for the sciences and community service drew me to pursuing a career in medicine and ophthalmology,” he says. “It is a tremendous privilege that patients entrust me with their vision.”
With a growing young family, balance is non-negotiable for Dr. Sidiqi. When he’s not working, he and his family have enjoyed immersing themselves in the community, doing tourist-esque activities, fruit picking, enjoying restaurants, exploring trails and making a splash – literally.
“We’ve gone to various indoor and outdoor waterparks, and there are tons of parks and beaches nearby. Niagara is an amazing place to raise a family, and I’ve found the region very enriching. We live in a sprawling natural sanctuary and are lucky to enjoy it.”

The ability to enjoy both personal and professional life is one of the main perks Dr. Sidiqi has found about choosing Niagara Health.
