Patients and staff at Niagara Health are recognizing the incredible work of our talented and caring physicians by joining in the celebration of Doctors’ Day on May 1. Our doctors’ contributions make a huge difference each day in the lives of our patients and their families.

Over the past year, there have been 24 physician recruitments and leadership appointments at Niagara Health as we continue to attract specialists from across Canada and the world.

After completing fellowships at the University of British Columbia and Western University in London, one of our recent recruits, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nathan Sacevich is now serving Niagara Health patients with his much-needed upper limb expertise.

“I’ve been involved in academics and research for as long as I can remember,” says Dr. Sacevich. “So the capacity to work at Niagara Health in a relatively small city with an urban centre not too far away, to have a new hospital and have academic affiliations like McMaster University is kind of everything I was looking for bundled into one.”

Niagara Health’s other recent physician recruitments include:

  • Dr. Jeremy Adams
  • Dr.  Vik Agarwal
  • Dr. Shalam Alaamri
  • Dr. Kaleem Ashraf
  • Dr. Denise Campeau
  • Dr. Han-Oh Chung
  • Dr. Marie Dion
  • Dr. Julian Dobranowski
  • Dr. Erick Duan
  • Dr. Don DuVall
  • Dr. Kayleigh Hagerman
  • Dr. Abhirami Hallock
  • Dr.  Ramez Hanna
  • Dr. Ali Jahed
  • Dr. Reem Maida
  • Dr. Karen Macmillan
  • Dr. Huma Qawi
  • Dr. Kimmen Quan
  • Dr. Jen Robert
  • Dr. Krystyna Samoraj
  • Dr. Nasim Tolami-Hemmati
  • Dr. Michael Tsang
  • Dr. Shervin Zandi

“We are thrilled to continue to attract so many innovative and skilled doctors to Niagara Health,” says Dr. Tom Stewart, Niagara Health Chief of Staff and Executive Vice President Medical. “Our new physician colleagues are adding to our existing strengths by bringing much needed specialties to Niagara.”

“Thank you to our outstanding doctors for their commitment to improving the health of our communities,” says Dr. Satish Chawla, President of the Medical Staff Association. “Doctors’ Day is a chance for us to celebrate the talent and accomplishments of the physicians who have dedicated their careers to bettering the lives of those we serve.”

“Together, our physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team have the opportunity to make a tremendous impact on the lives of those we serve,” adds Dr. Suzanne Johnston, Niagara Health President.

On April 27, physicians from all across Niagara gathered at the Hilton Hotel in Niagara Falls to officially celebrate Doctors’ Day. We encourage you to share a tweet or a Facebook post thanking your doctor using the hashtag #DocsRock2016.

About Doctors’ Day

Doctors’ Day is celebrated across the province each May 1 to recognize Ontario’s 28,000 doctors and their commitment to improving the health of all patients. May 1 was chosen to mark the birthday of Dr. Emily Stowe – Canada’s first female physician and founder of the womans’ movement in this country.

More than 320,000 patients across the province are cared for by an Ontario doctor each day.
