The information above is intended to provide patients and healthcare providers useful data such that an informed decision can be made with respect to referrals for total joint replacement surgery.  As can be seen, some surgeons have shorter wait times than others. It should be noted that these differences are NOT a reflection of the quality of service. For example, some patients may choose to wait for a specific surgeon no matter how long the time period.

It should also be noted that referral to a given surgeon DOES NOT guarantee a patient will wait the same amount of time. The surgery may occur in a shorter or longer time period. Surgeons assess each patient and determine how urgent their need for treatment is.

The provincial access target for least urgent (Priority 4) cases from when a patient and surgeon decide to proceed with surgery, until when the actual procedure is completed, is 182 days.
