Niagara Health celebrates Doctors' Day, honouring the dedication and impact of physicians

Niagara Health is proud to celebrate this year’s Doctors' Day on Thursday, May 1, recognizing the dedication, expertise and compassion of the physicians who make a profound impact on the health and well-being of our community.

“Our physicians are the heart and soul of our healthcare system, and we celebrate their unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care,” says Lynn Guerriero, President and Chief Executive Officer of Niagara Health. “From leading cutting-edge medical initiatives to collaborating with community partners, our physicians have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation, transforming healthcare delivery in our region. These accomplishments are a direct reflection of their skill, compassion and tireless dedication.”

Over the past year, Niagara Health’s more than 600 physicians have made significant strides in patient care, operational efficiency and collaborative initiatives. Below are just a few examples that highlight their expertise, leadership and commitment to Transforming Care.

Shining a light on physicians
In recognition of Doctors’ Day, Niagara Falls will be illuminated in blue on Friday, May 2, from 10:15 to 10:30 p.m. The illumination will also be available for virtual viewing. Additionally, the City of Welland’s Bridge 13 will be lit in blue from dusk until dawn on Thursday, May 1, as a gesture of gratitude.

Doctors’ Day is celebrated annually across Ontario on May 1 to honour the province’s doctors and their dedication to improving the health of all patients. May 1 was chosen to mark the birthday of Dr. Emily Stowe, the first woman to practice medicine in Canada and a founding figure in Canada’s women’s movement.
