Niagara Health is deeply concerned by recent incidents involving racist graffiti and hateful online content targeting members of our staff and physicians. These incidences have been reported to the Niagara Regional Police Service. We are working closely with our partners to ensure it is addressed appropriately.
There is no place for racism, hatred or discrimination in our organization or in the communities we serve. Niagara Health is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all patients, families, staff, physicians and volunteers.
We recognize that incidents like this have a real and lasting impact. Our healthcare teams come to work every day to care for others with compassion and professionalism. They deserve to feel safe and supported while doing so.
In response, we have increased security measures at our sites as an added precaution. We also encourage members of our community to be mindful about sharing harmful content online, as this can unintentionally amplify messages of hate. Creating a safe and respectful environment is a shared responsibility. If you see something concerning on or around hospital property, please report it to Niagara Health security or local authorities.
Niagara Health remains committed to standing against racism in all forms and supporting one another.
Message from the President and CEO of Niagara Health to all staff and physicians: March 28, 2026
Dear Niagara Health Team Members,
It has been brought to my attention that in recent weeks there has been a significant increase in the number of negative social media posts about Niagara Health. These posts spread misinformation, target our staff and physicians, and some have racist undertones. This is simply unacceptable. Niagara Health is committed to your physical and psychological safety and continues to support a work environment in which everyone is respected and valued.
Please be assured we are taking action:
- Effectively immediately Niagara Health is increasing security at our sites.
- We have reached out to our partners in the community, including Niagara Regional Police Services, to ask for support.
- The Communications Team is monitoring social media posts. We would remind you that social media is driven and amplified through views and shares.
We are here for you. Please reach out to your manager, leader, HR or your EVP if you need additional support.
I would also like to remind all staff of the following policies.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Your safety and security is our number one priority. Niagara Health has zero tolerance for hate and slander against our team members and leaders. Our staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and visitors deserve a healthy, safe and respectful environment. A respectful workplace is a safe place for everyone who enters our doors. To this end, we will be increasing security presence at our sites.
Privacy Policy
We strictly prohibit the posting of any photos, videos or audio recordings of patients, staff, physicians, families or volunteers on social media. Sharing such content without permission is a serious breach of privacy and trust. When this policy is violated, we will take appropriate action, including reporting the breach to the social media platform and, if necessary, pursuing further measures to protect those affected.
