The Walker Family Cancer Centre (WFCC) opened in March 25, 2013 offering patients in the Niagara region radiation treatment close to home.
Radiation Oncology consultation, treatment planning and treatment as well as follow-up is offered at the WFCC. Disease sites treated at the WFCC include cancers of the Breast, Prostate, Lung, lower Gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies and Skin cancers, as well as palliative radiation therapy. Many of these treatment disease sites involve multidisciplinary care coordination with medical oncology, supportive care, palliative care or other hospitals.
The formation of the multidiscipline Lung Diagnostic Assessment Program (LDAP) and Prostate Diagnostic Assessment Programs (PDAP) as well as telemedicine consultation facilitate rapid consultation and access to treatment.
The Radiation Oncologists at the WFCC also are cross-affiliated with the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton so patients can be offered access to specialized treatment such as Cyberknife or Brachytherapy.
