Like many health systems, Niagara Health continues to manage ongoing staffing pressures within a strained system. Despite these challenges, our team consistently goes above and beyond to care for our patients.
It’s been more than a decade since Niagara region got a new hospital. But over that same period, our population has grown and aged. Taken together, this has created challenges in providing the care Niagarans need and deserve.

It’s the foundation of Canada’s healthcare system. It’s vital to preventative care, health education and the management of chronic conditions. Importantly, it’s where patients turn for care when they are sick with a non-emergent illness. I’m talking about comprehensive primary care.
It’s a challenge sweeping across Ontario and Canada. The shortage of health-care workers — doctors, nurses and other clinical staff — is already impacting Niagara and has reached a critical point.
It doesn’t matter where you look. Right across our province and country, health-care systems are facing tremendous challenges. And yet, despite the many obstacles that stand in our way, there is reason for optimism and hope.

Earlier this month, we launched “Transforming Care,” Niagara Health’s 2023-28 strategic plan. It’s an ambitious, but realistic strategic plan that is the result of many months of listening: to our people, our patients and our partners.
