Summer student learns first-hand the impact of community hospitals on healthcare research
Scholarship recipients help NHKI tackle critical healthcare research
Results of summer student’s study could change how translational research is performed
The purpose of the Niagara Health Knowledge Institute (NHKI) is to improve patient care and experience by embedding research into clinical practice. The vision is to transform health care through leading community hospital-based research in Canada. Our values are equity, collaboration, continuous learning, innovation and empowerment.
Niagara Health places great value on teaching, learning, research, innovation and partnerships. As such, we provide opportunities for learners to participate in scientific exchange, collaboration and learning in a research environment. To facilitate early engagement of future research team members in Niagara, the NHKI has partnered with local post-secondary institutions to establish summer student research scholarships.
These awards fund university and college students to participate in a research-focused placement with the NHKI between May and August. The goal is to support the retention of high-potential students within the Niagara region, contributing to the overall growth of the NHKI while providing students with valuable research skills, exposure to a research environment and new networks within a community hospital research setting.
In addition, there are undergraduate, graduate and medical students who have received scholarships from national research network or other postsecondary institutions and chosen to work at NHKI to gain unique community hospital research experience.
