Niagara Health is seeing record numbers of walk-ins for COVID-19 testing at its three assessment centres as Niagara enters Stage 3 of the province’s Recovery Framework.
Kathy Newport, a Business Systems Analyst with our Information and Communications Technology Team based out of the Welland Site, works with departments across Niagara Health to ensure they have the technical support they need to provide extraordinary care to our patients.
On July 23, 2020, the Minister of Health and Deputy Premier, Honourable Christine Elliott, announced that Niagara has received approval to move forward as an approved Ontario Health Team. Niagara Health is one of 45 partners who comprise the Niagara Ontario Health Team - Équipe Santé Ontario Niagara (NOHT-ESON).
Niagara’s three Assessment Centres - in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Welland – are changing their walk-in hours from 4:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
We are continuing to lift visitor restrictions and are now arranging indoor visits with residents and their loved ones at our Extended Care Unit (ECU) in Welland. In addition, two visitors at a time are now welcome for both indoor and outdoor visits.
We are releasing an online screening tool that patients and visitors can fill out before coming to our sites. Filling out this form is the quickest and most efficient way to enter the building.

Niagara Health’s St. Catharines Site Laboratory has expanded its expertise with the introduction of microbiology to test blood cultures in-house, providing quick and direct access to patient test results.
The team at Niagara Health is recognizing an important milestone – as of Wednesday morning, there are no patients being treated for COVID-19 in the hospital.
For Dr. Andre Maddison, the biggest clinical challenge with COVID-19 has been the uncertainty, in particular with our palliative patients.
