Project Monarch is led by two digital strategy leads and a project director. Together with input from several advisory committees and working groups, this team will build and implement a hospital information system that best meets the needs of Niagara Health.
Digital Strategy Physician Lead
Dr. Benjamin Tam has been with Niagara Health since he finished his critical care fellowship in 2017. He joined the Project Monarch team in 2021 as the Digital Strategy Physician Lead and is responsible for providing clinical direction to the project in partnership with Clinical Lead, Tristen Castro.
Dr. Tam is passionate about building programs to enhance care for patients in the Niagara region. He is a committed clinician who is always looking for an edge to improve the care of his patients and their loved ones, and the experience of the teams he works with.
As a key member of the Project Monarch Leadership Team, Dr. Tam is looking forward to the system-wide digital transformation we’re about to experience with the implementation of the new modern hospital information system.
Digital Strategy Clinical Lead
Tristen Castro has been with Niagara Health since he started as a student 14 years ago. Most recently, he has worked as a nurse in the Emergency Department at the Niagara Falls Site. Tristen joined the Project Monarch team in 2022 as the Digital Strategy Clinical Lead and is responsible for providing clinical direction to the project in partnership with Physician Lead, Dr. Benjamin Tam.
Tristen champions informatics initiatives and projects. He is passionate about the advancements in health technologies and how they can be adapted and used as a vehicle to drive the future delivery of care.
As the Digital Strategy Clinical Lead, Tristen will be collaborating with care providers across the system to ensure the voices of clinical staff are heard and recognized as we build the hospital information system to meet our collective needs.
Hospital Information System Project Director
Tracy Gilbert joined Niagara Health in 2021 as the Director of Project Monarch and brings more than 15 years’ experience working in healthcare, delivering complex information technology projects.
Most recently, she has helped lead hospital information system implementation projects at both Trillium Health Partners and the University Health Network.
Tracy is certified in project management (PMP) and Health Information Management (CHIM). She is well-versed in governance structures and is passionate about ensuring that the right decisions are made with the right groups at the right time, including frontline clinicians.
