Niagara Health has registered the South Niagara Hospital Project with the International WELL Building Institute to work towards becoming WELL® v2 certified.

Niagara Health has recently registered the South Niagara Hospital Project with the International WELL Building Institute to work towards becoming WELL® v2 certified. 

What is WELL® Certification?

  • Scientifically developed and independently verified tool to help design buildings and measure/monitor their impact on the health and well-being of the occupants 
  • WELL® certification is recognized world wide and throughout the architectural/building communities
  • First healthcare facility in Canada to become WELL® certified
  • Aligns with LEED® using a similar certification system of Silver, Gold, Platinum
  • Holistic, focusing on behavior, operations, design and people
  • Features in each concept aim to improve building design, operations and the overall impact on the occupant’s specific body systems:  Cardiovascular, Digestive, Endocrine, Immune, Muscular, Respiratory, etc.
  • Promotes health and well-being for all occupants
  • Based on 10 concepts: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind and Community

About International WELL Building Institute

The South Niagara Site is working toward being the first WELL certified healthcare facility in Canada – focused on the health and well-being of our staff, physicians, volunteers, patients, families, caregivers and the Niagara community.
