Building for the Future
How Information, Communication and Automation Technology is powering the new South Niagara Hospital.
In recognition of the urgent need for greater access to healthcare in our community, the planning for the South Niagara Site continues to move forward.
Together, we are designing a new kind of healthcare that puts the focus on your health and well-being. The South Niagara Site will embody a campus environment that fosters a community of connected care, will advance the boundaries of healing, and transform your experience in healthcare.
The South Niagara Site is working toward being the first WELL certified hospital in Canada – focused on the health and well-being of our staff, volunteers, patients, families and caregivers and the Niagara community.
The new South Niagara Site will be an integral part of our connected healthcare system that centralizes services from existing facilities, making it easier for residents to access the care they need at one location, provide an overall better experience, and enable communities to be healthier.
By concentrating our resources at three regional sites, we will be better able to meet the growing needs of local residents with expanded services, support our staff and physicians, and keep pace with advancements in care. The new hospital will have 469 beds, which is an addition of 156 new beds in Niagara. This hospital site will feature regional centres of excellence in stroke, wellness and aging, and complex care for all Niagara residents. The Niagara region will also be well served by a full scope of acute care services provided at this site – a full-service Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, mental health and addiction services, surgical care, dialysis, diagnostics, and much more.
Following an open, fair and competitive request for proposals process that began in October 2021, EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare was awarded the contract to design, build, finance and maintain the new South Niagara hospital.
Niagara Health and EDIH will work closely with staff, physicians, patient and community partners to finalize design and start construction of the new hospital, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2028.
How Information, Communication and Automation Technology is powering the new South Niagara Hospital.
We are designing the South Niagara Hospital to be adaptable, flexible, and responsive — built to meet today’s state-of-the-art healthcare needs while anticipating future demands and supporting the long-term health of Niagara’s people and environment.
While construction is well underway, one critical piece remains: ensuring our community meets its local share commitment. Without it, we risk delays, and more importantly, we jeopardize Niagara’s ability to secure future provincial healthcare funding.
From interior designers to registered nurses and project managers on the construction team, women at Niagara Health are playing a major role in the planning and implementation of the South Niagara Hospital Project.
