Request for Qualifications Issued for South Niagara Site
The South Niagara hospital project is taking another step forward as Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health start the process to find a design-build-finance-maintain team for the project.
In recognition of the urgent need for greater access to healthcare in our community, the planning for the South Niagara Site continues to move forward.
Together, we are designing a new kind of healthcare that puts the focus on your health and well-being. The South Niagara Site will embody a campus environment that fosters a community of connected care, will advance the boundaries of healing, and transform your experience in healthcare.
The South Niagara Site is working toward being the first WELL certified healthcare facility in Canada – focused on the health and well-being of our staff, volunteers, patients, families and caregivers and the Niagara community.
Niagara Health has continued to move forward in planning for the new hospital to be located in Niagara Falls during the pandemic. Now, more than ever, the physical and infrastructure of a hospital is an essential component in ensuring we have the capacity to respond and roll out effective infection control measures. With the challenges of new and emerging infectious diseases, as well as higher public expectations and awareness of healthcare related issues, Niagara Health is in a great position to consider these aspects when planning the new South Niagara hospital. We will take what we are learning in our response to COVID-19 and apply those lessons learned to our new hospital.
Engagement is a critical aspect to our planning and therefore our approach to engagement will change to reflect physical distancing protocols. We remain committed to stay on track.
We will work through this together, and by continuing with planning, we ensure we are in a position to demonstrate to the Ministry of Health and Infrastructure Ontario, that our priority remains your health and safety, now and in the future.

Following extensive mandatory and elective due diligence, Niagara Health will be commissioning the removal of the woodlot thicket, located on the southeast portion of the South Niagara Site, to make way for future construction of the new hospital. In preparation of the thicket removal, Niagara Health has partnered with local community members to recycle and preserve the site’s natural elements.
Niagara residents, like Lynn Mytroen, have their say in the planning and design of Niagara Health’s future South Niagara Site from the comfort of their home.
